What Is the BC Sea Kayak Award?

The BC Sea Kayak Award recognises paddlers who can operate confidently and safely in moderate coastal conditions.

This course prepares you thoroughly for that benchmark.

Over five structured days in Pembrokeshire, you will develop skills beyond the minimum standard — not just to pass, but to paddle with genuine confidence.

What You Will Develop

Across the five days you will:

• Complete multiple coached coastal journeys
• Refine boat control and efficiency
• Develop tidal awareness
• Improve navigation and seamanship
• Practise rescues in realistic scenarios
• Strengthen decision-making in changing conditions

By the end of the course, you will be capable of paddling confidently in:

• Winds up to Force 3
• Tidal flow up to 1 knot
• Moderate coastal environments

And, importantly, you will be a reliable member of any paddling group.

Real Coastal Experience in Pembrokeshire

• Sheltered bays
• Headlands with light tidal flow
• Short exposed journeys
