A Proper Introduction to Sea Kayaking in Pembrokeshire

As this is your first time in a sea kayak, we begin in the calmest water available. You’ll learn how your body, boat and paddle work together — without the added pressure of wind, waves or tides.

This beginner sea kayaking course in Pembrokeshire is designed to build confidence steadily and safely.

What You’ll Learn

Over two or more structured days, you’ll develop the practical skills needed to paddle independently and safely:

• Efficient forward and backward paddling
• Turning and steering
• Moving sideways
• Balance and bracing to prevent capsizing
• Basic rescue skills

Day Two – Your First Coastal Journey

On the second day, you’ll put your new skills into practice on a short journey within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Routes are carefully chosen based on conditions and group ability. The aim is simple:

Controlled progression.

If you’re comfortable getting wet, we’ll finish with practical rescue practice — including rescuing another kayaker and being rescued yourself.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid grounding in the fundamental skills of sea kayaking and the confidence to continue progressing.
